Digital Composite Design Intricate Patterns for Floors and Walls in Video Production

Visual Artist + Author

Innovative design process quickly creates intricate patterns that work as statement pieces for larger productions, particularly for surfaces like brick walls, painted tile patios, and marble counters.

Of all the various creative processes I've stumbled across and created while producing content for a web3 developer client, this was one of my favorites

I think it is because, while most of my art is polished and highly focused on details, these patterns were a different kind of animal.

I found images and used the Adobe Capture application on iPad Pro to capture a series of composites of the image. For each composite I would adjust the exposure, highlights, and shadows to create a gradual shift.

Then in Adobe Fresco I placed the layers back together. Sometimes it takes hours to get the coloring right and fill in the gaps in detail while also making any "print" feeling detail look more organic. Other time you put the layers down and the work almost instantly.

The goal is an intricate pattern; a solid statement piece for any of my future productions. My favorite composites to make are of painted tiles, or statues. The more monochromatic the better. Solid lighting is a necessity.

But you'll also notice some silly creations like the carpet, which took all of 10 minutes to recreate, with such intricate and realistic looking results.
